St Monica School (CBSE), Kumbla observed Reading Day and Reading Month in memory of P.N. Panicker, as per the CBSE circular, through a variety of activities that promoted the importance of reading and good reading habits. The celebrations began on 19 June with the Reading Day Pledge during the morning assembly, followed by a workshop on “Reading for Development” for Classes VII–IX on 30 June, which included a video presentation highlighting the role of reading in knowledge and personal growth. On 2 July, a Poetry Recitation Competition was held on the Reading Day theme, and on 4 July, students engaged in newspaper, magazine, and digital reading using the smart board to encourage diverse reading practices.
As part of awareness programmes, an Anti‑Drug and Alcohol Awareness session was conducted on 17 July by Mr. Vasanthan K., Senior Civil Police Officer, Kumbla, who emphasized healthy choices and the dangers of substance abuse. Overall, the Reading Day and Reading Month celebrations were successful in inspiring students to develop a love for reading while fostering awareness, critical thinking, and positive values.
